Okay, I was skeptical about this whole super doubles thing at Harris Teeter. As readers already know, I am a big fan of triple coupon weeks/weekends at HT and often stock up on some really great deals. After doing the rounds this morning, I did find some really wonderful deals...but I am still missing the triple coupon thrill as I think there are more freebies to be had during triples (feel free to post a comment if you agree or disagree).
For those not in the know, HT has offered a triple coupon week once a week for the past few months in which they would triple all coupons up to 99 cents (so if you had a 75 cent coupon, it would then be worth $2.25). Rather than offering another triple coupon week this month, they've changed things up a bit and offered a super doubles week in which they will double the value of a coupon up to $1.98 (so if you have a $1.75 coupon, it would then worth $3.50). Unfortunately, there are not very many $1.75 coupons out there- and I really doubt the existence of a $1.98 coupon but I did have a number of $1 and $1.50 coupons in my coupon binder that turned into some freebies and near freebies.
You're limited to 20 coupons per day per household and they're actually enforcing the limit this go-round so I'll be making several trips to HT over this coming week in order to fully take advantage of my larger coupons. Here's a breakdown of my first trip:
2 Starbucks Frappucinos ($2.29 each - doubled $1 coupon = 29 cents each)
4 Fruit 20 Esssentials water bottles ($1.29 each - two doubled $1 coupons = 29 cents each)
1 Kraft Dressing Zesty Italian (FREE after doubled $1.50 coupon)
2 Dawn Pure Essentials Dish Detergent ($3.55 each - two doubled $1 coupons = 55 cents each)
2 Kelloggs Frosted Mini Wheats Cereal (FREE after two doubled $1 coupons)
2 Hot Shot Ant & Roach Killers (FREE after two doubled $1.50 coupons)
2 100 calorie Golden Oreo cakesters ($2.79 each - two doubled $1 coupons = 79 cents each)
2 Bumblebee tuna packets (FREE after two doubled 1.50 coupons)
2 Garnier Fructis shampoos ($2.50 each - two doubled $1 coupons = 50 cents each)
2 Garnier Fructis hairsprays ($2.50 each - two doubled $1 coupons = 50 cents each)
3 bags of Kraft 2% shredded cheese (FREE after two doubled $1 coupon & printed $2 coupon)
1 4 pack of Danactive (FREE after doubled $1 coupon)
With coupons & VIC specials, I saved a total of $57.47 on this order, paying a total of $9.05 for $66.52 worth of groceries. This is about an 86% savings (more if you tack on savings in tax).
I used a couple of internet coupons on this order (the Kraft cheese and Danactive specifically) but the rest were your garden variety Sunday paper savings. Woohoo!!!
